Bulmer, late of Greenhills, in the parish of Ainderby Steeple, for killing ten pheasants with a handgun charged with powder and hail-shot; against David . . . ., late of Leeming, for killing ten ducks with a hand-gun &c. ; against John Tod, late of Fairholme, yeom., for the like ; against John Warde, late of Skipton-on-Swale, for snaring twenty partridges at Morton, not being qualified to keep nets.

SKIPTON-BRIDGE, or Skipton-upon-Swale, a township and a chapelry in Topcliffe parish, N. R. Yorkshire. The township lies on the river Swale, 1¼ mile W of Topcliffe r. station, and 4½ WSW of Thirsk; and has a post-office, of the name of S.-Bridge, under Thirsk. Acres, 827. Real property, £1,342. Pop., 143. Houses, 28. The chapelry was constituted in 1843. Rated property, £2,840. Pop., 247. Houses, 54. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of York. Value, £30. Patron, Miss Elsley. The church was built in 1842. There is a Wesleyan chapel.

Skipton on Swale A Topographical Dictionary of England 1848

SKIPTON, a township, in the parish of Topcliffe, union of Thirsk, wapentake of Birdforth, N. riding of York, 5 miles (S. W. by W.) from Thirsk; containing 128 inhabitants. It comprises about 820 acres of land, and is situated on the road between Thirsk and Ripon, which here crosses the Swale by a neat bridge of eight arches. A church was consecrated in Nov. 1842; the living is a perpetual curacy, in the gift of the Misses Elsley, with a net income of £91. The vicarial tithes have been commuted for £27. 17. 6.; and the appropriate for £175, payable to the Dean and Chapter of York.
