BARNBY-UPON-DON, or Barnby-Dun, a township and a parish in Doncaster district, W. R. Yorkshire.

The township lies on the river Don, and on the Doncaster and Thorne railway, 5 miles NE by N of Doncaster; and it has a station, of the name of Barnby-Dun, on the railway. Acres, 2,230. Real property, £4,259. Pop., 537. Houses, 118.

The parish includes also the township of Thorpe-in-Balne; and its Post Town is Doncaster. Acres, 3,737. Real property, £5,698. Pop., 644. Houses, 141.

The living is a vicarage in the dio. of York. Value, £115. Patron, J. H. Newsome, Esq. The church was recently restored.

There are two Methodist chapels, an endowed school, and charities £59.

Barmby-upon-Dunn – Langdale A Topographical Dictionary of Yorkshire 1822

Barmby-upon-Dunn, a parish town in the upper division of Strafforth and Tickhill, liberty of Tickhill; 5½ miles from Doncaster and Thorne, 7¾ from Bawtry, 35 from York. – Pop. 495.

The Church is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to St. Peter, in the deanery of Doncaster, value, p.r. £66. Patron, John Gresham, Esq. Bacon styles it a vicarage, value £9 12s. 6d.
