ADWICK-UPON-DEARNE, a parish in Doncaster district, W. R. Yorkshire; on the river Dearne, near Bolton-upon-Dearne r. station, 6¾ miles NNE of Rotherham. Post Town, Bolton-upon-Dearne under Rotherham.

Acres, 1,107. Real property, £1,473. Pop., 226. Houses, 44.

The living is a vicarage, annexed to the vicarage of Wath, in the diocese of York. The church is ancient.

Adwick-upon-Dearne The Parliamentary Gazetteer of England and Wales 1851

Adwick-upon-Dearne, a parochial chapelry in the wapentake of Tickhill, union of Doncaster, west riding of Yorkshire; 6¾ miles north-north-east from Rotherham, on the river Dearne, and within about a mile of the spot where the North Midland railway crosses the Dearne and Dove canal.

Living, a curacy in the archd. and dio. of York, subordinate to the vicarage of Wath; rated at £20 5s., and in the parliamentary return at £40. The church is of considerable antiquity.

Pop., in 1801, 142; in 1831, 145. Houses 30. Acres 1,130. A. P. £1,375. Poor rates, in 1837, £144.

Adwick-upon-Dearne, (P.) in the wap. of Strafforth and Tickhill and liberty of Tickhill; 8 miles SW. of Doncaster; a small village belonging to Earl Manvers, except one small freehold; the soil is uncommonly fertile, though it is now rather a dull place, but the fine spa water recently found in it will probably at no distant day impart to it life and animation. Population 168.
