SWINDALE, a chapelry, in the parish of Shap, West ward and union, county of Westmorland, 12 miles (W. N. W.) from Orton; containing 73 inhabitants.
The living is a perpetual curacy; net income, £56; patron, the Vicar of Shap.
The chapel was built at the expense of the inhabitants, in 1749. Near it is a school, founded in 1703 by Mr. Baxter, and endowed with a rent-charge of £25.
