STOWEY (Over), a parish, with a village, in Bridgewater district, Somerset; 8¼ miles W by N of Bridgewater r. station. Post town, Nether Stowey, under Bridgewater. Acres, 3,647. Rated property, £2,291. Pop., 613. Houses, 142. The manor, with Quantock Lodge, belongs to Lord Taunton. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bath and Wells. Value, £153. Patron, the Bishop of B. and W. The church is later English and good. There are a national school, and charities £21.
