BROOMFIELD, a parish in Bridgewater district, Somerset; among the Quantock hills, 5 miles N of Taunton r. station, and 6 WSW of Bridgewater. It has a post-office under Bridgewater, and a fair on 13 Nov. Acres, 4,274. Real property, £4,078. Pop., 525. Houses, 94. The property is divided among a few. Broomfield House is the seat of the Crosses. Much of the surface is picturesque; and some points command extensive views. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bath and Wells. Value, £100. Patron, J. Hamilton, Esq. The church is good; and the churchyard has a stone cross. Charities, £22.
