Leicestershire Marriage Licences 1570-1729

Leicestershire Marriage Licences being Abstracts of the Bonds and Allegations for Marriage Licences preserved in The Leicester Archdeaconry Registry 1570-1729.

Leicester Marriage Bonds and Allegations. 1570-1729.

In order to economize space the year date and reference to each Bond or the entry in the Allegation Book is given after the bridegroom’s place of abode. The figures which follow the date constitute the number of the Bond in the bundle for that particular year. Where it has been found necessary to quote a bundle by its number, the letter B. and the number of such bundle is given before that of the record. Thus B. 8—12 would signify Bundle 8, No. 12. Each reference to the Allegation Book is distinguished by the number of the Book and the folio. Widowers and Widows are denoted by the letter w. after their names, but where nothing is stated it must be considered that the contracting parties were Bachelors or Spinsters, or else not otherwise described. The church or choice of churches where the marriage could take place (if recorded) will be found given after the bride’s place of abode. Places situate in other counties than Leicester are generally so specified.
