NAILSTONE, a village and a township in Market-Bosworth district, and a parish partly also in Ashby-de-la-Zouch district, Leicester. The village stands on a branch of the river Anker, 3 miles NNE of Market-Bosworth, and 3 WSW of Bagworth r. station; and has a post-office under Hinckley.
The township includes the village, and extends into the country. Real property, ÂŁ4,051. Pop., 302. Houses, 71. The parish contains also the township of Barton-in-the-Beans, and the chapelry of Normanton-le-Heath. Acres, 3, 806. Real property, ÂŁ8, 443. Pop., 639. Houses, 146. The manor of Nailstone and Barton belongs to Earl Howe; and that of Normanton belongs to Lord Belper. Coal was recently discovered in Nailstone township; and shafts for working it were formed in 1864.
The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough. Value, ÂŁ500. Patron, the Crown. The church was recently restored, and has a tower and spire. The p. curacy of Normanton is a separate benefice. There are a Baptist chapel in Barton, a Wesleyan chapel in Normanton, and national schools in Nailstone and Normanton.

NAILSTONE (All Saints), a parish, in the union of Market-Bosworth, hundred of Sparkenhoe, S. division of the county of Leicester, 3½ miles (N. N. E.) from Market-Bosworth; containing, with the chapelry of Normanton-le-Heath, and township of Barton-in-theBeans, 710 inhabitants, of whom 314 are in the township of Nailstone.
The parish comprises by computation 3450 acres of land; the surface is gently undulated, and the prevailing soil is a rich loam. The living is a rectory, valued in the king’s books at £24. 9. 9½., and in the patronage of the Crown: the tithes have been commuted for £570, and the glebe comprises 60 acres. In addition to the parochial church, there is a chapel of ease at Normanton-le-Heath.
