LUGWARDINE, a parish, with a village, in the district and county of Hereford; on the river Long, 1¼ mile SE of Wettington r. station, and 3 E by N of Hereford. Post town, Hereford. Acres, 2,097. Real property, £6,064. Pop. in 1851, 670; in 1861, 748. Houses, 151. The property is subdivided. Longworth, Lugwardine Court, New Court, Hagley Park, Hephill, and Wilcroft are chief residences. A three-arched bridge spans the Lug. Hops are grown, and encaustic tiles are made. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford. Value, £440. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Hereford. The church is ancient but good; and has a massive tower, with some curious sculptures. There are a Roman Catholic chapel, a national school, and charities, £26.

Lugwardine, a parish in the hund, of Radlow, union and county of Hereford; 3 miles east by north of Hereford, on a large branch of the Wye. Living, a vicarage, with the perpetual curacies of Little Dewchurch, Hentland, Llangarran, and St. Weonards, It is exempt from visitation, being in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the dean and chapter of Hereford: it is rated at £22 7s. 1d.; gross income £980.
Tithes commuted in 1840; rent-charge £196 1s. 9d., due to the dean and chapter of Hereford, and £278 2s. 1d. vicarial. Here is a daily school, endowed with £5 15s. 6d. per annum, for the education of 12 children. Other charities, in 1837, £20 19s. per annum. Poor rates, in 1838, £241. In 1835, hops were cultivated in this parish to the extent of 25 acres. Acres 1,950. Houses 136. A. P. £3,815. Pop., in 1801, 585; in 1831. 662.
