Moreton-in-the-Marsh, co. Gloucester.

London 80 m. WNW. Pop. 1015. M. D. Tues. Fairs, April 5; and Nov. 1, small fair, for cattle.

A disused market-town and parish in the upper division of the hundred of Westminster, situated on the Roman Fossway. The poorer classes of the inhabitants are chiefly employed in spinning linen-yarn for different purposes. In the middle of the village is an ancient building, supported on pillars, which is said to have been the market-house. The living is a curacy subordinate to the rectory of Bourton-on-the-Hill, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, not in charge; church ded. to St. David; patronage with Bourton rectory.
