Marriages at Hardwicke 1566 to 1812

Note. – The Hardwicke Marriage entries are contained in four volumes, viz. :- Vol. I, 1566 to 1731; Vol. II, 1732 to 1780; Vol. III, 1755 to 1790; Vol. IV, 1791 to 1812. Vols. I and II contain Baptisms, Burials, and Marriages; Vols. III and IV are Marriages only.

Vol. I. – Parchment book, 11 in. by 7 in., 44 ½ leaves. The last 19 leaves are larger than the first 25, and they were probably bound together are the first part had been written, as on some pages in the first part the writing goes quite down to the binding; one page between the two parts has been torn out, so there are no entries for 1686-88.

Vol. II. – Parchment book, 8 in. by 14 in.; 15 leaves.

Vol. III. – Parchment book, with board covers, 6 in. by 8 in.; 32 leaves, ruled and numbered, but only 21 are used.

Vol. IV. – Paper book, with board covers, 10 in. by 15 in.; 24 leaves, with 4 printed forms for marriage entries on each page, but only 6 leaves (all but last form) are used. This book also contains forms for Baptisms and Burials.

Many of the Marriages are of people belonging to Standish, Saul, and Randwick. Standish is ecclesiastically united with Hardwicke, and is the Mother Parish to Saul and Randwick.

The following transcript has been collated with the Bishop’s Transcripts at Gloucester.

These Marriages have been extracted by Miss Catherine L. Lloyd Baker, of Hardwicke Court, by permission of the Rev. Canon Nash, M.A., Vicar of Standish-with-Hardwicke, and are now printed under her supervision.
