Living, a curacy subordinate to the rectory of Hodnet: which see. In 1833, there was one day-school with 55 scholars, supported by Sir R. Hill, in this chapelry. Acreage with the parish. Houses 53. A. P. £1,797. Pop., in 1831, 328. Poor rates, in 1838, £136 13s.

Hawkstone, a hamlet in the parish of Weston, county of Salop; 5 miles north-north. east ot Ludlow. Here are the ruins of a castle formerly be longing to Lord Audley. In 1803, two circular towers of great beauty and remarkable thickness were found beneath these ruins: near them are the remains of a square Roman camp.

The seat of Sir Rowland Hill, Bart. The mansion, long the residence of the ancient family of the Hills, is situated on the north side of a hill, a little out of the road from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch.
