GRINDON, a township and a parish in Stockton district, Durham. The township lies near the Clarence railway, ½ a mile NNE of Carlton r. station, and 4 NNW of Stockton-on-Tees. Acres, 3,446. Pop., 303. house, 65. The parish contains also the township of Whitton, and comprises 4, 187 acres. Post town, Thorpe, under Stockton. Rated property, £2,948. Pop., 343. house, 75. The property is divided among a few. The manor belonged to the late Marchioness of Londonderry. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Durham. Value, £250. Patron, Earl Vane. The church and parsonage was recently rebuilt.
