Boyton an Ecclesiastical Parish and Civil Parish partly in Cornwall and partly in Devon. Often referred to as both a parish and also as a chapelry before 1768 but was certainly an Ecclesiastical Parish by 1768. The part of the parish that was in the county of Devon was Northcott hamlet (situated in Black Torrington Hundred). Northcott became a separate Civil Parish in 1866 in Devon.

Boyton Civil Parish was altered in 1966 gaining part of the Devonshire parishes of Northcott Civil Parish, part of Luffincott Ancient Parish and part of St Giles in the Heath Ancient Parish.
