“Memorandum. – On the eighteenth of November 1770, the water in the River was so high as to be several feet in depth in this Church, whereby the Parish Chest in which this book and several other records were kept belonging to the parish were several days filled with water. For this reason the entry of the marriage between John Syms & Elizabeth Wall was taken on writing paper and sewed in as the book was at that time totally wet and useless.”

Minsterworth, anciently called Mortune, is a township, parish and straggling village, 4 miles south-west from Gloucester, being intersected by the turnpike road leading to Newnham and Chepstow, and is in the Westbury Union, in the Duchy of Lancaster, West Gloucestershire, in the archdeaconry of Gloucester and Bristol, and in the deanery of the Forest and bishopric of Gloucester and Bristol.
The living is a vicarage, value £125; patron, Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol. The church of St. Peter consists of a nave and aisle of equal length, with a chancel to each.
