Warmington

The Imperial Gazetteer of England & Wales 1870

WARMINGTON, a parish, with W. village and Arlescote hamlet. in the district of Banbury and county of Warwick; 3¾ miles WNW of Cropredy r. station, and 5½ NNW of Banbury. Post town, Banbury. Acres, 1,750. Real property, £3,706. Pop., 452. Houses, 108. The manor belongs to Mrs. Freeman. A Benedictine priory, a cell to Preaux abbey in Normandy, was founded here, in the time of Henry I., by H. de Newburgh; and was given, by Henry VI., to Witham priory. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Worcester. Value, £450. Patrons, Hulme’s Trustees. The church is chiefly of the 14th century; and its chancel was restored in 1867. There are a Wesleyan chapel and a national school.
