LANGFORD, a village, a tything, and a parish in the district of Faringdon and county of Oxford. The village stands 2 miles from the boundary with. Gloucestershire, 2½ from that with Berks, 3¼ NE of Lechlade, and 5½ NW by N of Faringdon r. station; and has a post-office under Lechlade, by Swindon. The tything comprises 2,210 acres. Real property, £3,044. Pop., 449. Houses, 105. The parish contains also the tything of Little Faringdon, the township of Grafton, and the hamlet of Radcot. Acres, 4,200. Real property, £6,448. Pop., 701. Houses, 166. Most of the property belongs to Lord De Manley and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. Langford House is Lord de Manley’s seat. Grafton Manor belongs to Mrs. Wainewright. The river Isis runs on the S boundary, and is crossed there by a bridge of the 13th century. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Oxford. Value, £300. Patron, the Rev. F. G. Lemann. The church is ancient, and has an early Norman tower. Little Faringdon was recently made a separate benefice. Value, £150. Patron, the Bishop of Oxford. There are chapels for Independents and Primitive Methodists, and charities £18.

Living, a vicarage with the curacy of Little Farringdon, a peculiar of the prebendary of Langford church, in the cathedral of Lincoln; rated at £21 19s. 4½d.; nett income £349. Tithes, &c, commuted in 1803. Patron, in 1835, W. Vizard, Esq. There are 2 small daily schools in this parish. Charities, in 1837, £17 10s. per annum. Poor rates, in 1838, £443 7s. Acres 4,200. Houses 125. A.P. £3,128. Pop., in 1801, 356; in 1831, 673.

Radcutt or Radcot

RADCOT, or Radcutt, a hamlet in Langford parish, Oxford; on the river Thames, 2 miles SW of Bampton-in-the-Bush. Real property, £768. Pop., 36. Houses, 10. A three-arched bridge here crosses the Thames; is supposed to have been erected in the 13th century; and was the scene of a battle in 1387, between Robert Vere, Duke of Ireland, and the Earl of Derby, afterwards Henry IV.
