Netherton is a village in the parish of Dudley, from which it is distant about 2 miles; it includes Darby Hand, Bumble Hole, &c. The population is returned with that of Dudley.

The Church, dedicated to St. Andrew, is a very handsome and spacious stone building, and being erected on very high ground, commands a fine view of the surrounding neighbourhood. It was erected in 1830, at a cost of about £8,000; Lord Ward gave the land, and was likewise a very handsome contributor. Rev. George S. Traneker, Incumbent; Mr. Henry Weaver, Clerk. Service – 10 45 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Baptist Chapel is at Sweet Turf. No stated minister. Service – 10 30a.m., 2 30 and 6 p.m.

There is also an Old Baptist chapel in this village. No stated minister. Service – 10 45 a.m., 2 45 and 6 p.m.

The Wesleyan Chapel, situate at Windmill End, is a small building. No stated minister. Service – 2 30 and 6 p.m.

There is a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel at Darby Hand. No stated minister. Service 10 30 a.m., 2 30 and 6 p.m.

The Primitive Methodist Chapel, at Windmill end, has no stated minister. Service – 2 30 and 6 p.m.

The Primitive Methodist Chapel (Noah’s Ark) is a small brick building, situate in the Cradley Road, erected 1851. No stated minister. Service – 11 a.m., 2 30 and 6 p.m.

The Methodist New Connexion have a small chapel here, erected 1848. No stated minister. Service – 10 30 a.m. and 2 30 p.m.; Thursday, 7 30 p.m.

There is also a Chapel belonging to the same sect at Darby Hand. No stated minister. Service – 10 30 a.m., 2 30 and 6 p.m.

The Netherton Church of England School, for boys and girls, is a large brick building, well adapted for the purpose for which it was erected; there is a house adjoining for the master. It is supported by contribution and the children’s payments. Average number of scholars – boys, 160; girls, 110. Mr. William Meese, Master; Silvia Meese, Mistress.
