ALNE (Great), a parish in Alcester district, Warwick; on the river Alne, 5 miles W by S of Bearley r station, and 6½ NW of Stratford-on-Avon. It has a post office under Birmingham. Acres, 1,753. Real property, £3,028. Pop., 347. Houses, 89. The property is subdivided. The living is a p. curacy, annexed to the rectory of Kinwarton, in the diocese of Worcester. The church is good. Charities, £28.

Great Alne, (St. Mary Magdalene), a parish, in the union of Alcester, Alcester division of the hundred of Barlichway, S. division of the county of Warwick, 2¾ miles (N. E. by E.) from Alcester; containing 404 inhabitants. It comprises by computation 1800 acres, and is bounded on the south, and partly on the east, by the river Alne. The living is a rectory, annexed, with the perpetual curacy of Weethley, to the rectory of Kinwarton: the church has been enlarged within the last few years. Part of the glebe belonging to Kinwarton rectory is situated in this parish.

The History Topography and Directory of Warwickshire 1830
Great and Little Alne stand on the river Alne, near its junction with the Arrow. This manor was bestowed on the monks of Winchcomb Abbey, in Gloucestershire, at an early period, but since the dissolution it has had various possessors.
