BROADWELL, or Bradle, a parish in Stow-on-the-Wold district, Gloucester; on the Fosse way, 1½ mile NNE of Stow-on-the-Wold, and 2 miles WNW of Addlestrop r. station. It has a post office under Moreton-in-the-Marsh.
Acres, 1,600. Real property, £3,713. Pop., 398. Houses, 92. The property is much subdivided. Broadwell House is the seat of Lord Leigh.
The living is a rectory, united with the rectory of Addlestrop, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol. Value, £643. Patron, Lord Leigh. The church is good; and there are a national school and charities £16.

Broadwell, a parish in the upper division of the hund. of Slaughter, union of Stow-on-the-Wold, county of Gloucester; 1½ mile north-north-east of Stow-on-the-Wold, intersected by the Cheltenham, Oxford, and London Union railroad.
Living, a rectory, with the curacy of Adlestrop, in the archd. of Gloucester and dio. of Gloucester and Bristol; valued at £23 11s. 10½d.; gross income £648. Patron, in 1835, C. Leigh, Esq. All tithes, the property of the clerical rector, were commuted in 1792.
There are here a daily school and two Sunday schools.
The parish is crossed by the Roman fosse-way.
Pop., in 1801, 239; in 1831, 334. Houses 79. Acres 1,600. A. P. £3,158. Poor rates, in 1837, £145.

Broadwell Kellys Gloucestershire Directory 1856
Broadwell is a parish and village, 1 mile north-east from Stow-on-the-Wold, and 2 north-west from the Adlestrop railway station on the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton railway, in Upper Slaughter Hundred, Stow-on-the-Wold Union, East Gloucestershire, Gloucester archdeaconry, Gloucester and Bristol bishopric. The church of St. Paul is a neat stone building in the early English and perpendicular style. The living is united with that of Adlestrop, and is a rectory, united value about £800 per annum, in the gift of Lord Leigh; the Hon. and Rev. Henry Pitt Cholmondeley, M.A., is the incumbent, and the Rev. Robert Potter, M.A., is the curate. There is a National school for boys and girls, and Sunday school endowed with £4 per annum. The seat of Admiral Jodrell Leigh is situated here. The population, in 1851, was 388, and the acreage is 1,849; the soil is oolite, marlstone, and lias clay. The manorial rights are divided into five portions. Admiral Leigh, the rector, and others, are the landowners.
