Ballingham, a parish in Ross district, Hereford; on the river Wye, and on the Hereford and Gloucester railway, near Fawley station, 5½ miles N.N.W. of Ross. Post Town, Holme-Lacey under Hereford. Acres, 901. Real property, £1,802. Pop., 168. Houses, 40. The property is divided among a few. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford. Value, £165. Patron, Sir E. F. S. Stanhope, Bart. The church is good.

Ballingham, a parish in the upper division of the hund, of Wormelow, union of Ross, county of Hereford; 7½ miles south-east from Hereford; bounded on three sides by the river Wye. Living, a perpetual curacy not in charge, in the archd. and dio. of Hereford; rated at £12, in the parliamentary returns at £100; gross income £105. Patron, in 1835, Sir E. Stanhope. There is a day-school here. Pop., in 1801, 138; in 1831, 147. Houses 33. Acres 950. A. P. £958. Poor rates, in 1837, £100.

A Topographical Dictionary of England 1831
Ballingham, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Wormelow, county of Hereford, 7 miles (N. by W.) from Ross, containing 127 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, endowed with £30 per annum private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Lugwardine.

Ballingham is a small parish and straggling village, distant 9 miles south-south-east from Hereford, 5 north from Ross, 3 south from Holme Lacy station on the Hereford, Ross and Gloucester railway, and 137 from London, situated on the banks of the river Wye, in Ross union, upper division of Wormelow hundred, Hereford archdeaconry and bishopric, and deanery of Archenfield. The church of St. Dubricius is a small stone building, and consists of nave and chancel, with a tower and 3 bells. The register dates from 1726. The living is a perpetual curacy, worth £165 annually, without residence, in the patronage of Sir Edwyn Francis Scudamore Stanhope, Bart., of Holme Lacy; the Rev. William Pitt Stanhope, M.A., of Brasenose College, Oxford, is the incumbent. Here is a National school for boys and girls. Sir E.F.S. Stanhope is lord of the manor and chief landowner. The population in 1861 was 168. From an eminence called Ballingham Hill a most commanding prospect is obtained of the winding course of the river Wye, and of the adjacent neighbourhood

Ballingham, a small parish and straggling village, containing 149 inhabitants, is distant 9 miles south-south-east from Hereford, 5 north from Ross, 2 south from Holme Lacy railway station on the Hereford, Ross, and Gloucester railway, and 137 from London, and is situate on the banks of the river Wye, in Ross Union, Hereford archdeaconry and bishopric, and deanery of Irchenfield. The church is a small stone building, and consists of nave and chancel, with a tower and 3 bells. This tower is surmounted with a very neat and handsome spire, which has a pretty appearance in the distance, being visible above the trees by which it is surrounded. The living is a perpetual curacy, worth £165 annually, without residence, and in the patronage of Sir Edwin Francis Scudamore Stanhope, Bart., of Holme Lacy. Here is a National school for boys and girls. Sir E. F. S. Stanhope, is lord of the manor and chief landowner in this parish. From an eminence called Ballingham Hill a most commanding prospect is obtained of the winding course of the river Wye, also of the adjacent neighbourhood. There are no charities connected with this parish.
