I recently bought a Kindle and was looking on Amazon for interesting reads when I came across a digital copy of “Sketch of Solihull (Birmingham) and its Environs.”
I actually bought an original copy of this book sometime ago as a lot of my family, going back to 1700s, originate from that neck of the woods. It is only a short book but is a very interesting read if you have family from the area. It was written in 1840 by an anonymous author to raise funds for repairing the Organ, erecting a Gallery in Solihull Church, and building a School-room at Bentley Heath. If you have rellies from the Solihull or even Shirley area then grab yourself a copy because at £1 it is a lot cheaper than buying a traditional copy of the book, if you can find one, as I doubt many were originally printed and there certainly aren’t many copies around.
For those of you who don’t have a Kindle don’t miss out as you can read kindle books on your PC, Mac, IPad or phone by downloading one of the Kindle reading Apps.
For those of you in the US here is the link to the book on Amazon.com Sketch of Solihull (Birmingham) and its Environs.
I’m not sure if it is available in Australia etc. but if it is, it should show up if you do a search for Solihull.
Happy Christmas!
