East Tanfield N Yorkshire Lewis Topographical Dictionary of England 1845

TANFIELD, EAST, a township, in the parish of Kirklington, wapentake of Hallikeld, N. riding of York, 6 ½ miles (N. N. W.) from Ripon; containing 38 inhabitants. It comprises by computation 1160 acres, chiefly the property of the Marquess of Ailesbury, and set out in farms. The tithes have been commuted for £228.
